Kang Kung Beef


ingredients
  • 500-700g of Topside Beef
  • 3 tbsp of Soy sauce
  • 3 tbsp of Oyster sauce
  • 2 medium Onion, sliced
  • 2 cloves Garlic finely sliced
  • 2-3 dry whole red chilies or fresh red chilies
  • 2 tbsp of Pepper powder
  • 3-4 tbsp of Oil
  • Salt to taste
  • 1-2 bunches of Kang Kung leaves
method
  1. 1Place the Beef on a flat surface and cut thin, even strips. slice the Beef against the grain.
  2. 2Transfer the meat into a bowl, add in 2 tbsp Soy sauce, Oyster sauce, Pepper.
  3. 3Mix well and set aside for 10-15 minutes to marinate.
  4. 4While the Beef is marinating, Place a pan over medium heat and pour in the oil.
  5. 5Add the sliced onions, red chilies, garlic and sauté for 2-3 minutes.
  6. 6Once the onion softens, add the Beef with the marinade into the pan and cook for 5-10 minutes on low heat, leaving the Beef to simmer and gradually cook.
  7. 7At this stage, if you find that the marinade is not enough to cook and the Beef is not tender add 3/4th cup of water and leave it to cook for 20 minutes or until the liquid thickens and is reduced by half.
  8. 8Once the Beef is cooked, add the Kankun leaves.
  9. 9Pour in a tablespoon of Soy sauce, season with salt, mix the Kang Kung with the Beef. Keep mixing until the leaves wilt. this should take 1-2 minutes.
